Starting out from today..

I am Mels. I am a mumma and my job is to bring up my two little boys to the best of my ability.  I love the Montessori method for us and this blog is to follow my attempts at incorporating the fundamental ideas of Maria Montessori into our home life.  A little bit of background, I am Montessori trained, birth to six, at London st Nicholas and I have worked with under fives for nearly twenty years. My sons are H, four in December 2012 and G two in February 2013. H attends a Montessori nursery three sessions a week and is thriving.
Why does Montessori suit us so well? H is many many wonderful things; funny, kind, affectionate, clever, breath takingly sweet, chatty and oh so cute and he is also on the autism spectrum. This means he struggles with aspects of life, one that impacts me as a stay at home mother, is lack of imagination. This is something that is hard to explain and understand if you are not familiar with it, but it affects much more than just playing at pirates. It impacts his ability to think of things to do other than his obsession, which is trains. The Montessori materials, and in particular practical life are ideal. G is fiercely independent and wants to do everything his brother does, he is developing as a quirky, clever, fun, lively and neurotypical little boy, and as a pair, Montessori compliments their needs. This blog will follow my Montessori moments with the boys and in our house and will be a honest look at how easy it is to do at home, for normal non super-mum types like me, who regularly feels very tired and little boys who are so unpredictable that my best ideas often fail and off the wall spur of the moment things are a huge success.

  1. This is a fabulous idea!! I can't wait to read all about the exploits of Mels the Great and her Magical Montessori Mothering. It will also be a wonderful way to keep up with Harris and my sweet godson Gilby as they grow and develop since I'm sososo far away. Yay!!
